“What is the last thing you would like to eat before taking that terminal trip into the beyond? Most of us probably won’t have to ponder the answer to this question, but there is a select group of folks who do. In some sort of attempt to humanize capital punishment, the American prison system offers those sentenced to death something called a last meal. James Reynolds shows us that when death is looming, each palate craves something unique. “Last Suppers” is a series of photographs depicting recreations of some of these. Something to make you think: what would you want?”

Users and listed cooks connect directly via the phone number or email address the cook lists in their profiles, so the actual agreement might be anything that the two parties come up with. It’s a great idea. In particular, the chance for amateurs or part-time foodies to earn via the site could be a huge attraction…” [Read the full article on IDDICTIVE.COM]

Online Resource Connects Culinary Professionals and Foodies in the World’s First Prepared Foods Marketplace

Washington, D.C. (June 16, 2009) – BookofCooks today announced the launch of its Web-based directory created to connect culinary professionals and consumers. Incorporating the latest social networking technology, the Web site serves as a resource to help people locally find professional chefs, caterers, specialty foods and more within a particular region.

On www.BookofCooks.com, users can easily register to ‘book a cook’ who meets their taste buds needs, while professional cooks can showcase their culinary talents, meet like-minded experts, and earn extra income as they are matched with potential clients. Whether users are in search of gluten-free, vegan, organic, slow food, international cuisine, or are simply nostalgic for a taste of their hometowns, BookofCooks is a complete one-stop-shop to satisfy any craving.

“As a foodie who loves to dive into cuisines from all over the world, I envisioned Book of Cooks as a portal to help people reach out in their neighborhood to find the types of food they’re craving,” said Julian Mellicovsky, founder of BookofCooks. “It’s a handy resource where people can find personal chefs, cooks and food artisans who create unique meals that are not always available on restaurant menus.”

The platform enables users to search by location or food type to find specialty cooks in other areas; order prepared foods; review and share their experiences with others while rating the chefs. Culinary professionals can set up their own free online restaurant/bakeries; upload menus, licenses and videos; showcase their cooking skills and earn money while building a customer base.

About BookofCooks

Launched in 2009, BookofCooks enables people to see “what’s cooking in their neighborhoods,” serving as an online marketplace for ‘home-made’ prepared foods. An innovative and practical online destination that connects foodies with personal chefs, dietitians, food artisans, and cooks in their local markets, BookofCooks also enables culinary professionals to showcase their specialties, network with other professionals, and get feedback from consumers. For more information, please visit www.BookofCooks.com

As you all know, this Sunday, May 10th is Mother’s Day in the U.S. If you are struggling trying to decide what to give her this year, consider hiring someone to come over and cook for her. It is very easy…no chores or trips to the mall, no planning ahead of time – just a phone call to a cook away.

You can browse the listings on Book of Cooks and hire a personal chef (search using the keyword “Personal Chef”) to come to her house and cook a day, week, or a month of her favorite meals. A week of Healthy/organic food? A month of tastes from different regions and countries? A dinner with her family that she will never forget (no grocery shopping, no mess in the kitchen)? There are lots of possibilities.

Oh! And remember, if you decide to hire a cook, this is also an opportunity for him/her to potentially earn a future customer (mom) – many chefs will strive hard and go an extra mile to please you, and her!

If you know someone who is a good cook/chef you can hire him/her, and treat mom while helping a friend. If you are a good cook yourself, but you are on a shoestring budget…hey, perhaps you can do it yourself!

Here is a check that you can customize and print or right click to save to your computer.
