Thanks for this thoughtful review, Mike!

“There are so many awesome things to say about BookofCooks. The idea reminds me of a Timothy Ferris blog I read about his friend hiring cooks on Craigslist. This is timely with the economy and so many people looking to pick up extra money this site could really take off! The UI is great and I love that they use Google Maps API and FB connect. I hope they get more press and to start getting more people signed up. Sort of the chicken and the egg dilemma that can only be solved by time or outstanding marketing. I hope there business model works well enough to keep this going until it becomes a hit. They really need to figure out a way to get this into the hands of cooks who may or may not be web savvy. Great concept now they just need people on the site.” (Read the entire article on VentureDig]

The acclaimed Australian business publication, Anthill, is featuring Book of Cooks along with a group of really cool new concepts by and for Foodies from around the world, which are striving to reinstate customer convenience by broadening consumer choices, making certain goods and services more affordable, and simplifying cumbersome tasks through the use of the web. The article which can be found here discusses eCater, SevenLunches, Mangia and SoundFood. It’s a great read.

“Nowadays, customer convenience has taken a backseat to retail up-selling. The milk is strategically located at the rear of the supermarket to ensure that consumers are sufficiently tempted by aisle offerings on their way to collect the milk. Petrol station counters are swamped with tempting multi-buy deals in an effort to get more from you than a quick fuel top-up. Bucking the trend of customer inconvenience, some savvy entrepreneurs have carved out a lucrative niche for themselves in the online food industry by reinstating consumer convenience as King. Convenience in the food industry has long meant greasy fat-laden burgers hastily thrown together by teenage staff, and tossed your way through a drive-through window. Either that, or a soggy microwave frozen dinner. The good news is that change is upon us, as 2009 is dishing up some deliciously innovative food-related businesses with a fresh new focus on consumer convenience”

About Book of Cooks: “With the recession-inspired anti-restaurant trend well underway, consumers who lack the time, energy, motivation or skills to cook themselves quality meals are flocking to BookOfCooks to lap up the less expensive dining options on offer. At the same time, cooks are cashing in on their flair for food, be it as a full-time business or just to earn themselves a little extra money on the side.” [Read the entire article on Anthill]

“…Visitors can use the site to find cooks in their area to deliver prepared food, cater an event, cook for you in your home or even work with you to create a great meal. Users and listed cooks connect directly via the phone number or email address the cook lists in their profiles, so the actual agreement might be anything that the two parties come up with. It’s a great idea. In particular, the chance for amateurs or part-time foodies to earn via the site could be a huge attraction…” [Read the full article on IDDICTIVE.COM]
